Personal Quotes
[in response to a reporter asking her whether she always wore pigtails]: I never wear pigtails, I wear plaits.

[Hardest scene]: Neville comes up to me with his toad, Trevor, and says, "Do you want to kiss Trevor goodnight?" Every time he did this I burst into laughter. I was supposed to give him an "I hate you" look, but I couldn't help myself. It took me about eight takes to get it.

It was unbelievable seeing me as an action figure! In a few months, toddlers all around the country will be biting my head off!

[On kissing her co-stars]: Oh my God, no, no chance, no chance. That's not in my contract!

My friends are all really nice about my fame, they're just curious really, they ask lots of questions.

[On how her character, Hermione Granger, has matured]: She's rock and roll. She's feisty. Girl power!

[On reporters asking the same questions over and over]: That's the good thing about them! They all ask exactly the same questions and you can say exactly the same answers! You don't have to think, you can just stand there like a broken record going LALALA.

[on working with boys]: I like being around mixed company. Dan (Daniel Radcliffe) and Rupert (Rupert Grint) definitely make their fair share of cheeky comments about me being girlie, but it's all in good fun.

It took me three films to get Hermione in jeans. To get out of the robes with the tights and the itchy jumpers. Whoo-hoo!

I hope my head doesn't get very big. I'm just going to keep my feet on the ground, stick to friends and family and try and lead a normal life.

I love fashion. I think it's so important, because it's how you show yourself to the world.

[On being a known actress]: Most people are really nice but some stare, like you're some kind of zoo exhibit and not a real person with real feelings. Even when you take away all the glamour and attention and premieres and everything, it still comes down to the fact that I'm acting.

Hermione uses all these big long tongue twister words, I don't know what she's going on about half the time!

I could be 100 years old and in my rocker, but i'll still be very proud that I was part of the Harry Potter films.

[On her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, who play Harry and Ron]: More than just friends, they've become like brothers. Or sisters, I don't know. In fact, I don't see them like normal boys. I mean that I cannot imagine me going out with one of them. For me, they are like my best friends. I can laugh and talk about everything with them without any taboo. I really like them a lot.

[On other roles]: Now that I've played the snotty, bossy, posh Hermione Granger, I'd like to play some American high school girl. I want to play something totally different. I want to play every kind of character and every point of view, but I'm probably going to be playing Hermione for a while.

[If she'd sooner have a great Hollywood career or a great marriage]: Hmmmmm... Can't I have both? But if I would really have to choose, then I'd pick a great marriage. I think it would be amazing if I would get to play beautiful parts and win Oscars, but that would all mean nothing if my parents and friends weren't there with me. What is success when you don't have anybody to love? No, I'd rather be happily married.

[On watching the earlier movies]: It's like baby photos... I look like a chipmunk!

I get sent Bibles. I have a collection of about 20 in my room. People think I need to be guided.

J K Rowling

Does she need n intro?

Everyone who has come across me knows that I 'm a die hard fan of Harry Potter...i practically m HPmaniac#1. And no- its not the movies- but the books that really entranced me.

Rowling has mastered a style of her own- which has been accepted all over the world- by ppl frm all ages. Now that the HP series has come to n end (arising indignation and agitation by furious fans all across the world), she is all set to write an HP encyclopedia (i can hardly wait)!!!!!!!!

J.K. Rowling's real name is Joanne Kathleen Rowling. She was born on July 31, 1965 in Bristol, England. She has a younger sister named Dianne that was born two years after J.K. Her mom, Anne died in 1990 of multiple sclerosis, when J.K. was 25 and her dad works as a manager with Rolls-Royce.

Ms. Rowling knew she wanted to be a writer when she was five or six years old. The first story that she ever wrote was called "Rabbit." It had interesting characters such as a large bee called Ms. Bee. Her family moved twice when Ms. Rowling was growing up. One of their houses was in Bristol in Winterbourne and she had a friend there whose last name was Potter.

After she graduated from high school she attended Exeter University, where she studied French. Then when she was twenty-six years old she moved to Portugal and she became an English teacher. She loved to teach English in the afternoons and evenings so she could work on her writing in the morning. That was when she first started writing about a "Wizard."

Rowling married a journalist who was Portuguese. Soon after that they had a daughter named Jessica. Shortly after the birth of Jessica in 1993 J.K. and her husband divorced. She moved with her daughter to Edinburgh, Scotland. After several rejections J.K. finally sold her book "Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone" for $4000 in U.S. dollars.

To support herself and her daughter, J.K. became a French teacher. She gave up teaching and began writing full time when Scholastic bought the American rights to the first "Harry Potter."

In 1997 she won the British book awards for Children's Book of the Year and the Smarties Prize. Ms. Rowling followed through and wrote sequels such as "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, " "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." Ms. Rowling also writes her books all by hand!

By the summer of 2000, Rowling had sold over 30 million copies of "Harry Potter" books. They are printed in 35 languages. All this has earned over $400 million dollars. Her fourth book pre-sold over one million advanced copies with a first printing of 5.3 million. Ms. Rowling used her initials "J.K." because she was afraid that boys wouldn't read her if they knew a woman wrote them.

Republic day speech

59 years from today, a bird, for the first time, was about to fly.

A bird, who had earlier spent her life in dark dungeons, was about to face the harsh glare of light. A bird, who had earlier relied upon others for survival, was about to step into the dark, unpromising world, all by herself. A bird, who had never before felt her wings, was about to fly; and serving as the wind beneath her wings, insiting her to fly on, were her hopes, her amibitions, her determination and of course, her courage.

On 26 Jan 1950, india, after being dominated for 200 dark, misreable years, set up her own norms, her own laws, her own constitution. In 1931, Mahatma gandhiji had already spelt out what he wanted the contitution to do:

"I shall strive for a constitution which will release India from all thraudem and atronage. I shall work for an India in which the poorest shall feel that it is their country, in whose making, they have an effective oice. There can be no room in India for the curse of untouchability...Ishall be satisfied with nothing else"

Indisputably, the constitution did justice to Gandhiji's expectations. Till date, no large social group or political party has questioned the legitimacy of the constitution; this is an unusual achievement for any constitution.

Republic Day, is therefore of grave importance in the history of India. It reminds of the blood and sweat drained by those, whose hearts beated and wept for India. It is a wake up call to all those, whose conscience has gone to sleep, but is not yet dead...it is a call to action for all those who have been indifferent and inactive. It invokes the particiaption of every ordinary citizen, so that they take up cudgels for the nation; a challenge that will surely put the nation on the path of prosperity.

Today, however, a concerned citizen feels help[less and lost; he wants to do something, but doesn't know what. He doesn't know where to start...he needs direction and finds none..he is angry, yet scared.

Our people have been deprived of their basic constitutional and fundamental rights, such as the rights to freedom and equality. They feel helpless when faced with inadequeate judicial resources. Have the common man's dreams been realized, or have they actually turned into nightmares? Is this the turnout of the constitution, proclaimed with much fanfare, 59 years ago?

Our freedom strugglers did their part of our country. THIS is is our moment. youth is the symbol of growth, development and dynamism. We are going to be tommorrow's political leaders, and decide how corruption free, or otherwise, our nation is going to be. As Shiv Khera puts it: "Our youth do not form 100% of the nation's population; however, they do consitute 100% of its future."

It is our turn now, to take up that flight..which was taken up by that bird..59 years ago.

(this speech was delivered by me on the eve of Republic Day (January 26, 2008) in my school).

Alice Academy

Ok...Its a cartoon.

But STILL.

It is- like all Anime cartoons- different...its not just a tom and jerry done, or all about Action and yo yo-s or something- Alice Academy is a really sweet and yet captivating simple story that will make you laugh, ponder and even get touchy at times.

The heroine of the story: Mikan Sakura...a 10 year old naiive cute funny energetic girl who runs off from her grandpa's home in search of her bestest friend 'Hotaro' who has gone to a mysterious 'Alice Academy'- a school known to admit only geniuses like Hotaro. On her way, she meet Mr. Narumi, a teacher at Alice Acdmey who notices at once that Mikan has a special Alice. He gets Mikan enrolled in the Academy and she's perfectly happy about it...until she meets her classmates...who both intrigue and scare her...!

My favourite favourite ABSOLUTELY fav. charac. in the sotry is Mr. Narumi...the really cute teacher with the alice of human pheromone inclination...he is very very very very close to Mikan and the author of the series has revealed that he is a central charac. of the story...

Even Mr. Misaki is good...he's quite cautious...

Ruka is great too...and so is the class rep.

MIKAN...of course is toooo good for keys...(i refer to my keyboard). She is smart, funny, friendly, loyal, affable....and ever so sweet..

Here's a detailed list of characters of the story..its really interesting...so chk it out:
